Celebrating Volunteer Week: KBR's Volunteer Efforts Around the World

Publish date

National Volunteer Week is an annual celebration to honor the spirit of generosity and the impact of collective action. At KBR, we believe it is our responsibility to support the communities where we live and work. Around the globe, our teams have united under a shared mission of giving back, addressing critical needs, and driving positive change. From feeding the hungry to protecting the environment, here’s how KBR has been making a meaningful difference through a series of inspiring initiatives so far this year.

Supporting Families During Ramadan with Al-Ber Charity

This past Ramadan, KBR employees in Al Khobar came together to spread compassion in their community. Through a meaningful collaboration with Al-Ber Charity, our team organized and donated Ramadan baskets filled with essential items to families in need. Each basket showcased the spirit of generosity of each of our employees, united in their mission to support the less fortunate during this special time of year.

Fighting Hunger with OzHarvest

Following KBR's quarterly employee townhall, President and CEO Stuart Bradie and the Infrastructure Solutions leadership team rolled up their sleeves to volunteer with OzHarvest, Australia’s leading food rescue organization. Together, the team prepared over 140 meals for individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. This initiative aligned with OzHarvest’s mission to stop food waste, feed people in need, and safeguard our planet, reinforcing KBR’s commitment to sustainability and community care.

“Preparing meals for those in need was a humbling experience and a powerful reminder of the impact we can make together,” said Aaron Fowler, Vice President of Infrastructure Solutions Australia. “I’m proud to support such a vital cause while strengthening our team’s commitment to community and collaboration.”

Cleaning Up Our Planet, One Beach at a Time

IMPACT Chennai brought together KBR colleagues and their families for a beach cleanup event earlier this year. Volunteers of all ages joined forces to restore and protect their local environment. By removing litter and ensuring the beach remained pristine. The cleanup event resulted in collecting 30 bags of waste, each holding 200 liters. This event was in support of One Ocean, KBR’s sustainability initiative aimed at finding engineering solutions to one of the greatest environmental challenges facing our world – the elimination of plastics in the ocean.

Lending a Hand at the Houston Food Bank

KBR's Global Leadership Development Program participants took time to connect with one another in a meaningful way by volunteering at the Houston Food Bank. After a week packed with meetings and problem-solving, the team of 25 KBR leaders found a shared purpose in packing meals that would help vulnerable members of the community.

Through events like this, KBR teams completed over 250 volunteer hours with the Houston Food Bank last year, earning the SILVER 2024 President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA). Together, our efforts helped facilitate an incredible 140 million nutritious meals distributed in 2024 – a testament to the power of community and dedication.

"Being part of the work at the Houston Food Bank is very fulfilling. It’s about coming together to help our neighbors when they need it most. I’m genuinely thankful for KBR’s support – they allow us to reach more families and truly make a difference in ways that matter." - Celeste Martinez, KBR associate IT business analyst and foodbank volunteer.

Changing Lives with Prosthetic Support in India

KBR’s team in India recently partnered with Jeevan Asha Hospital & Rehabilitation Center for a prosthesis camp, an initiative led by Saurabh Sagar Sewa Sansthan Charitable Trust. This impactful program provided prosthetic solutions to individuals in need, empowering them to reclaim their mobility and independence. Volunteers visited the hospital and met with some of the people whose treatment was being sponsored by KBR. Spoke to them and heard their life stories.

Addressing Hunger in Singapore with Food from the Heart

Members of KBR’s Singapore office stepped up to support the Food from the Heart food donation drive in collaboration with their adopted charity. Employees and clients regularly host food donation drives, and once again, the team showed remarkable generosity, filling carts with donated food that would provide reliable and sustainable food support to those in need.

Keeping Houston Beautiful with a Buffalo Bayou Cleanup

KBR’s Houston employee resource group for early career professionals, IMPACT, hosted a cleanup event at Buffalo Bayou, a main waterway through the city. Volunteers tackled trash and microplastics to beautify this vital community space. Their efforts also had a significant environmental and urban impact. By removing litter that blocks waterways, the team contributed to preventing flooding, a major issue in Houston during periods of heavy rainfall. Unobstructed bayous are critical to stormwater drainage, and initiatives like these help mitigate the damage and disruption caused by floods.

KBR is proud to partner with the Buffalo Bayou Partnership, the non-profit organization leading the planning, design, activation, and stewardship of the bayou.

Inspiring Action Everywhere We Go

Whether it’s feeding families, restoring natural landscapes, supporting essential healthcare or reducing waste, KBR’s volunteer initiatives consistently demonstrate the power of collective action to drive meaningful change. Our teams around the world have shown that even small acts, when brought together under a united mission, create a tremendous impact.
