Showcasing KBR’s positive impact in the UK nuclear sector
Colleagues across KBR and Frazer-Nash Consulting, a KBR company, were honored to welcome local Member of Parliament, Josh MacAlister, to our newest UK office in Whitehaven, Cumbria.
The office recognizes KBR’s growing presence in the area, with a focus on its support to the UK nuclear sector and providing a hub for KBR colleagues to work on exciting projects for clients all around the UK. It is located close to Sellafield, one of the world’s largest nuclear decommissioning sites, and where KBR is six years into its role as the integration partner on the Programme and Project Partners (PPP) contract.
After a warm welcome by local leadership and signing a banner recognizing KBR’s commitment to Zero Harm, John MacAlister MP met with technical specialists and members of KBR and Frazer Nash’s apprenticeship and graduate schemes. During a round table discussion, colleagues provided a deep dive into KBR’s increasing UK presence, which includes over 4000 colleagues across 18 office locations, contributing more than £900m to the UK economy.
In Cumbria, KBR has around 200 people supporting PPP, with another 200 based in the Warrington area. Team members are working collaboratively to provide a wide range of expert capabilities, including programme and project management, project controls and commercial services, assurance management, and leadership in key areas including digital delivery and environment, health, safety, security and quality.
Paul O’Shaughnessy, Vice President for KBR’s Defense Nuclear Technology Solutions business, said: “Our number one priority is always our people and this great new office creates an environment that allows them to personally and professionally develop and deliver outstanding services for our customers.
“It was a huge pleasure to welcome Josh, introduce him to some of our amazing people, and highlight the positive impact KBR and Frazer-Nash are having directly in Cumbria and more widely across the UK and nuclear sector – supporting projects critical for future generations.”
Josh MacAlister, Member of Parliament for Whitehaven and Workington, said: "It is always a pleasure to visit businesses in the nuclear supply chain in West Cumbria to find out more about their work and how they're contributing to our local economy. We had a good discussion about the work of KBR and Frazer-Nash and how we can maximise the benefit felt by local communities of nuclear investment and my ambitions for West Cumbria's nuclear future. Thanks to the team for hosting me."
KBR has a long history of supporting large-scale, long-term, complex government and private sector projects around the globe. In the nuclear sector, KBR’s workforce has grown rapidly from 182 people in 2020 to over a 1,000 nuclear professionals today, including interns, apprentices and graduates supporting our nuclear programs across the UK.
